I don’t know about you and what part of the country or even part of the world you live in – but this is my sixth week bound to my house. I don’t mind it all that much, but do wish I could go out just a bit more often.

See – I like being home. There’s comfort and safety and joy in my home. But I’ve worked hard to design it that way; then I don’t go crazy when needing to be home. I think now is a time to look at your home and maybe give it just a little refresh – and you can do this without a cost (or extremely minimal).

What’s the happiest place or the most serene place in your house? Why is it your favorite?

Take a look at those places in your home that feel right. Now look at the corners or whole rooms that just don’t feel right. Most of the time it’s because they lack to serve a true purpose. Or they lack daily life functionality and end up being the mess that drives you insane but you just never truly tackle. Now let’s fix it!

I’ve gathered few tips here on how to refresh your space by spending little to no money – because that makes us even happier!

  1. Pick a space – just one. This should not meant to be overwhelming.

  2. Define the purpose/use of that space – even if it is only temporary (i.e. school zone for the kids). Are you looking for a reading nook? Do you need a place for the kids to put away their toys? Or are you looking for a place to just reboot and wash away the day?

  3. Bring your reboot/happy place into your home. What makes you feel refreshed? Sand, sun, water, just being outside? For me, it's just being outside, so it's necessary to have greenery (even fake) in the house, and in the parts of my home I spend a lot of time. Is yours water? Consider adding additional photos of water or even water feature. Think about how to incorporate your happy place into your home.

  4. Shop your house. This means changing up layouts or locations of items. You could move accent decor from one room to another. And consider changing up pictures in frames or frames themselves. Use what you have - but find a new purpose. Upcycle items - and don't be afraid to give something a fresh coat of paint! Spray paint can be your best friend.

  5. Add Light. You will be amazed at how a lamp can change the whole feel of a room. And light doesn't mean just lamps - try candles (battery powered) or under shelve lights.

Hope these couple tips/ideas gave you some food for thought. Your house should feel like home to you in every aspect. If you need more help – or tips, reach out!
